A Farmall A has a square shaft sticking out of the bottom for the steering arm to go on very difficult to keep tight. A 140 has a tapered shaft which is possible to keep tight, and guess what, it fits in the gearbox I updated my steering box on the Super A about ten years ago to eliminate the slop. Got lucky the IH parts man,[older than dirt] told me IH once made a kit to update but no more. Parts are still available individually though and he got them for me. about $170 bucks them Maybe you should look for a steering box for a newer model with the tapered shaft.
