The 'factory' marks are timing marks. If the timing gear cover is still off, you should be able to bar the engine over to make sure the cam shaft is timed to the crankshaft and the governor/distributor/magneto shaft is timed to the camshaft. It is possible that whoever took it apart the last time around had the engine barred over so that while nr. 1 cylinder was at top dead center, they had it TDC on the intake stroke, not the power stroke. Rather than put it all together to simply turn the engine a half-turn, they just added new marks 180 degrees out from the old to simplify re-assembly. No guarantee that is what they are, just my guess as to why you have two sets of timing marks. On the oil pump, you shold be able to remove those bolts one at a time to put the metal lock strip back on there. From your post is sounds like you are going to pull the whole engine off the tractor. You should be able to install that strip without even having to drop the pan. Good luck, Dave
