W-9 Questions?

I bought a W-9 a few months ago and was wondering if anyone knows where the voltage regulator goes? mine is under the metal box with the light swithc and amp guage on it, and it is upside down, it looks like water could get in there pretty easy, but the mount looks pretty much original. Were going to tow it home today, then I'll try to post a picture.
