I took my gear shafts to a machine shop (a full service machine shop, not an automotive machine shop) and had them built up and reground. They had worn down where they went thru the bushings in the housing. The machinist also made new bushings and installed them for me. My total cost was $340 plus gear oil and gasket material and it works like a champ now. Seemed expensive at the time, but now I realize it was worth it. The best price I ever saw for a salvage P/S unit was around $600.
