We have a 656 hydro and love it. I bought it at auction several years ago and rebuilt the hydro myself, using an I-T manual. It probably cost me about $1,000 in parts, and its still working today. A word of warning though. IH used several vendors for the hydro units, and each one is different in price and specs. Also, if your charge pump is bad, you're screwed because the parts aren't available anymore.I priced a rebuilt unit a couple of years ago and they wanted about 3 grand with your core, but only if your charge pump was good. I'm getting a little nervous because I didn't do any thing with our charge pump and it was showing some wear back in 88.Bottom line is these tractors are getting hard to find parts for, and even though hydros have come back in popularity in combines and small tractors, getting parts for these tractors can be a challenge.
