When we make things fool proof, we just make more fools. In the old days you had to have some brains to run a tractor or truck or car. Now you cant even get the shift lever out of park without pressing the brake. There was a "news" reporter on the tv a while ago interviewing people with minivans that did not have this "safety" feature, and crowing because some kid pulled the car out of park and it ran down the drive into the street. They were all upset because the car did not have this feature. I yelled at the TV, "set the parking brake!!!"
Just go to the county fair, or an antique machinery show and look at the stuff (many of which we used to run) and think what that stuff would look like with all the government safety stuff on it. We didnt think anything of a john deere flywheel spinning right next to us. Now they couldnt make that. I drive model A fords. It takes brains to run one. Retard the spark to start, (like the F20) adjust the carb from the dash, choke to start, etc. Young people are amazed it takes so much to do to make it go. I think people have gotten lazier and dumber. Every time it snows, there are cars in the bushes along the road, from going too fast, and most of them are SUVs, whose drivers think they can drive like summer becasue they saw the TV ads. When it snows, I stay home until all the idiots are off the road, either becasue they slid off, or by some miricle got home.
