To change the TA clutch you split the engine from the bellhousing. I know this because I did it on our SMTA. Get yourself a shop manual, it will really help out and answer a lot of your questions. The actual torque amplifier planetary gearset can only be changed by splitting twice (engine from bellhousing then bellhousing from transmission). Nothing wrong with 6 volt positive ground. I have a few tractors and a pickup from 40's and 50's and they all start fine on 6v positive ground.
