Super M suddenly gone bad...

I have a 53 SM I have talked about numerous times on this site and have even fixed it up thanks to many of you. I am hoping you can do it again.
It is mighty cold here in Wisconsin right now (first snow that stayed for more than 24 hours in over a year, I think), 14 degrees, so I start the SM and leave the choke open for a while so it can warm up. I have been having this problem for almost a month now (even when it wasn't cold). I start it, and runs okay, a little off balance (sure hasn't ran like that for the last three years) and when i nurse it a little with the choke it runs like it should. However, when the choke is closed or slightly open, it chugs along and suddenly starts dying like I shut it off, but under torque it will come back to life, almost as if I was fliping the switch "OFF" and then before it dies flip it back "ON." I can't figure it out, and I need to pick corn on Saturday. I'm sure I can at least "make do" with the ol' Dearborn picker, but I would still like to show the ol' girl around town instead of hiding it in the field (the field, truely, is in town. It is along the street, along 14/61 right IN Coon Valley, Wis.) Anyone know what could be my problem? Thanks for your thoughts.
