If your voltmeter says 7 to 7.5 volts at the battery while it is running, then the system is charging, regardless of what the tractor ammeter is saying. Ignore the ammeter for now. It is probably defective. You could have a battery drain when the tractor is off. Try this: Run your tractor for a while to make sure the battery is charged up real good, then shut the tractor off and disconnect one of the battery cables. If you have a portable ammeter, connect it between the disconnected cable and the battery terminal that it came off of. You should read 0 amps, but even if it is reading up to 25 milliamps, it should still be able to start after sitting for a month. If it is more than 25ma, you have a serious battery drain when the tractor is off and you need to find where it is coming from and correct it.

If you don't have a portable ammeter, just disconnect the battery cable (after running the tractor for a while)like I described above and let the tractor sit a few days. Then reconnect the cable and see if it starts. If it starts good, that is an indication that you have a battery drain when the tractor is off.
