Be sure to put 2 seals on each side; the original seals were a wider leather type and today's seals just don't do the same job. Put some gun grease between the 2 seals for longer seal life.
NOTE!! just pry and chisel and Vise-Grip the old seals out of the housing; I nearly made the mistake of trying to remove the housing without taking the gear off from inside the transmission.
Take your time and the old seal will come out in several pieces.
When adjusting the new brake bands, set them as equal as you can, connect the pedals together, set the brakes firmly and lock them in the applied position. Now adjust the setscrew on the bottom of the brake cover. Loosen the locknut and turn the setscrew in until it touches the brake band. Now back it out 1/2 turn and lock the nut. Repeat for the other side.This positions the band so it doesn't drag and wear prematurely. This can also help reduce brake "chatter".
