I worked for the SD Dept of Game, Fish & Parks for three summers while in College back in the 1960's. We used to haul a yellow Cub in the back of a '63 Chev 1/2T all the time. (Used it to mow fishing access areas around several lakes-one was about 30 miles from the shop.) Worked fine-old Chev was a "3 on the tree" so pulling out of the ditch we loaded from was REALLY hard on the clutch. We'd back the Chev into a ditch, drive the Cub into her up on bridge planks w/tailgate flat on the on the ground & bridge planks across the gap. Had to make sure that the tailgate wouldn't dig into the ground. Slide the planks under the deck, they were cut to just fit in the length of the box. We'd lock the brakes on the Cub, shut it off, leave it in gear (R), close the tailgate & go. Mower deck on cub was a tight fit between the fenders, though-cub had narrow (not turf) tires, & they had pretty good clearance, as I remember. First summer, Chev had 6 ply tires & would sway some @ highway speeds-went to 8 plys & solved problem next year. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
