There are many different ways to look at it,I myself wouldn't worry about the engine not matching nor would I worry about the rear end (unless the 1 in the shed was a easy fix)Swaping rear ends is no big deal.I would make it a useable ,functionable tractor.There are alot of people that would go through all the work to make it completely original,which I do on certian tractors like my 49 cub.Keep in mind you can sink a whole bunch of money into something you won't get all that money back out of.For example I was trying to sell my cub the highest offer I got was $2050,I have $1500 in it just in replacement parts, cosmetics, rims, tires ect not to count what I paid for it!Also the 100"s of hours I have in it.So I will have to keep it because I am not going to lose money on it,I'll give it away first to a family member or store it until my son gets older.I appreciate the old tractors and equip. for what they are and what they stood and still stand for,I would not own a new tractor nor will my son over my dead body!!! If I was you I would get it working, painted and be proud of it.Good Luck!
