I'm just guessing here, but my reading on various boards indicates that early Farmall diesels are not very popular. My perception is that they're not very reliable, can be hard to start, and have a nasty habit of cracking the cylinder head if not warmed up and cooled down properly. Parts are harder to find and more expensive than the gas equivalents as well. The narrow front thing seems to be all about safety. There have been several discussions of the relative risks of rollovers between narrow and wide fronts. Personally, I'd take the maneuverability of the narrow front over the alleged stability of the wide front any day. Definitely NOT interested in the diesel engine tho. Just my opinion, your mileage may vary...
