Do the easy stuff first: Check for loose or broken wiring. Also check for a good ground at the voltage regulator (loosen it from it's mount, clean to bare metal the mating surfaces, then tighten back down.) Next with the motor running at 1/2 speed, give the generator a couple of light hits on the brush end with a hammer and see if charging resumes. Also give the regulator a couple of taps with the hammer HANDLE (don't hit the regulator too hard!) If that doesn't do it, with the motor still running at 1/2 speed temporarily connect the BAT and ARM terminals at the regulator with a jumper wire. If the ammeter now shows charge, the regulator is bad. If the above does nothing, temporarily ground the "F" terminal at the generator (again with the motor running at 1/2 speed). If it now charges, again the regulator is the problem. If still no charge, the problem's gotta be with the generator.
