There is a total of 8 degrees of advance in a cub distrubitor witch amounts to a total of 16 degrees on the crank so if it is not working then there is your problem as thing get hot with out advance and they will also get hot if there is to much advance. everything must work wright . When i work on any older gas tractor that is one thing that i check and find that the dist. is not doing what it is suppose to do , i have a dist. strobe that i run them on and can tell if the advance is working and if it is not within spec. i can rebuild it while it is on the stand you would not believe how much differance it make been doing dist work for darn near 40 years so i would say that i know what i am doing.
