Marv, I told this story on the forum a few weeks ago. I bought a B250 that hadn't run in several years. When I got it home on the float I changed the oil and ran it for little jobs for about a week. I noticed that the oil guage would sometimes jump or drop right down and come up again..mostly normal pressure. It had gone through my mind to take the pan off and see what the sump and screen were like but I decided to change the oil again along with filter thinking this would clean up the problem...same thing...following Saturday I took the pan off to find almost 2" of black jelly like sludge in the bottom of the pan so close to the pick up screen that I believe it was sucking some up every once in a while and that was giving me these kooky readings on the guage, after reinstalling the pan and a new gasket and fresh oil my guage is a steady as a rock and I loaded manure with the B250 for two days and it ran great. My only regret is that I didn't pull the pan the very first day I brought it home ...would have saved two filters and about 8 liters of oil!!Now as to your problem perhaps oil isn't getting to the guage, check your screen and pump, you may have to take a pipe cleaner to the tube leading to the connection for your guage off of the block. I have a Case 300 and I had to clean the orfice leading up to the filter..clogged with sludge, now it spews oil out when you take the filter off for a check so I know its going through the filter. good luck with it from Mike in Exeter Ontario
