The last time you offered a suggestion for helping with my timing problem on the 1944 A, you said to remove the distributor entirely and rotate the GEAR on the "back" so the cam lobe is on the rub block of the points. When I remove the disributor by taking two bolts loose, the same bolts that you would loosen to adjust the timing, I find no gear on the "back"...just the key that fits in the slot on the engine. If you make a move on the dist. you have to move it back to fit into the slot.

I thought I got it the last time, but am still confused...and although I visit N. TX at times, tractor is in N. PA, so your offer of help will have to be limited to this written exchange.

Where is the GEAR that you refer to? Perhaps that is what is confusing me. When I remove the dist. entirely, I remove it by taking the two bolts out at the adjustment location. There is no gear exposed at that point...only the key and slot.

Thanks again for your help.

Just curious, where in N. TX are you talking about? I lived in TX for ten years, and get back there at least yearly for business reasons.
