Farmall 400 engine miss (solved)

Have the problem (missing on #2) worked out I think.
Leaned the carb way out. Put in new plugs (2nd set) and wires. Adjusted timing, took it out and ran the #$&! out of it; well ran it as hard as I am capable of, wish I could find a baler somewhere to put on it. Cannot beleive that I had not checked the timing before. Someone had mentioned that in a reply to my last post and I thank them for it. Amazing how one can overlook such a simple step, the thought never crossed my mind. The timming marks jump around alot however, has anyone else seen this?

Adjusting the clutch and TA has just about fixed the difficult shifting problem. Still shifts hard out of 1st sometimes but the rest of the gears work well(TA works a little better now I think also).

Now
If someone could just explain to me how to hookup a voltmeter (12volt system). Somethink else I thought I knew how to do. I have the + side connected to the "BAT" terminal on the ignition switch and the - side to the negative battery post. Guage still reads 12 volts with the engine running. I read 14 volts across the battery and at the alternator with my meter.
