Sorry guys, I hadn't noticed this Junkyard Wars post until after I posted mine. I think they use a real junkyard, but it must be fenced off from the rest of the yard and it is definitely "seeded" with parts to make the job go much quicker. I guess I don't mind that, because I don't know how someone could be expected to build a working steam engine in 10 hours, and also build the rest of the machine to put it in. Some of the episodes aren't that great, but I guess they have to gear them to people that aren't that mechanically inclined, as well as those that are. Still, I think a team of old tractor guys could pretty well stomp anyone they came up against, just the like the farmers/ag equipment engineers from the U.S. did. Some of the ideas that the team come up with are just so ridiculous that you know there's no way they're going to work. I guess common sense isn't a universal talent, lol.
