You will cook your jumper cables alot more quickly with a 6 volt than a 12 volt. With a six volt,the amperage requirement is so high that you would need jumper cables the size of garden hose. I have jumped 6 volt tractors many times with 12 volt batteries. The only time I had any problem was when my helper hooked it up backwards. You have to hook them up + to + and - to - on both batteries. If you dont want to make the last connection at the battery, hook the - terminal on the 12V to the - terminal on the tractor's battery and the + on the 12v to a good ground on the tractor.
