I'm going through the same process. I got a little siphon feed Sears sandblaster a few years ago; it works, just slow. But I can't emphasize enough that you research for yourself the dangers of silicosis. It has killed lots of people. Even though it is still common to see welding shops, etc, sandblasting with sand and no respirator. The only kind of respirator that is NIOSH approved is an air-supplied type; they have a air hose that runs outside or to a known clean air supply, away from the silica dust. No filter type respirator (that I've seen) is adequate. I would advise you to try to find some of the Black Beauty or Black Diamond blasting media. The closest I could find it is an hour away; after 8 phone calls, an industrial welding supply shop finally told me of a place to find it. It is $7/100 lbs here. For more information, look up the MSDS sheets for Black Beauty and silica sand on the internet.
