Yeah the pneimatic lift cylinder is unique looking but they work just fine if you maintain them and don't let the tractor sit in the rain and keep the water off the valve on top of the manifold. it should work fine.

I beleive that these pnuamtic lifts or exhaust lift or whatever they were called are becoming an item of more interest and collectability. just like you said, how often do you see one ona Farmall and one that is working?

I think it depends on your intentions whith the restoration. Original? or modifiying it for work because technology has improved and those lifts were removed and replaced with modern hydraulics.

If they worked then but technlogy improved they should work now.

Its like the 6V vs 12V idea. I bet 3 bazillion million dollars that if 12V was around in 1939-40-50 they would have put 12V on tractors. But a good original and working 6V system is nothing to balk at because they have stood the test of time and a working 6V is as good as a 12V.

So do you want to restore to original and maintain the uniqueness of the era? Or do you not care?

Restoring the lift is an education in its own right and takes you back to a time when life and implements was simpler. A BN with a restored pneumatic lift would draw attention at any show.

Nothing wrong with a working exhaust lift. And nothing wrong about learning about them and learning how to maintain them.

Gene B can attest to that.

I have only see one or two Farmalls with working exhaust lifts and they have gotten a bad rap like Ford SOS transmissions because people didn't take the time to do the annual maintenance and keep them working. If you take care of your tool it will take care of you.

If you find a tractor with a working exhaust lift dont take it off and dump it but value it as Farmalls repsonse to Ferguson and Fords rear lift but more affordable for the farmer out there sweating the mortgage and the bills.Scott

Today's Featured Article - Choosin, Mounting and Using a Bush Hog Type Mower - by Francis Robinson. Looking around at my new neighbors, most of whom are city raised and have recently acquired their first mini-farms of five to fifteen acres and also from reading questions ask at various discussion sites on the web it is frighteningly apparent that a great many guys (and a few gals) are learning by trial and error and mostly error how to use a very dangerous piece of farm equipment. It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro ... [Read Article]
