If you H is a very old model, it will have a "cut out" relay instead of a voltage regulator. If it is equipped this way it will have a High-Low charge rate on the light switch in the first two positions on the light switch, this will be before the lights turn on. It is a common problem with these to not charge properly if they do not ground from the light switch to the switch cover plate, the oblong one, and from the cover plate to the box on the steering colmum that it mounts to.
