a tad overpriced doncha think?.

went and looked at a 1939 farmall H yesterday with a JD trip loader. The owner had come to us tractor guys undernith the show tent the day before and said he had a tractor he didn't use anymore that he wanted to get rid of and gave his name and address, told us to stop by and see it, so we did.
he backed it out of the shed so we could look at it better.
PROBLEMS:
1)grill was smashed in.
2)rear tires were really, really bad.
3)rear tires had cloride in them and had been leaking for a few years all over the rims and hubs.
4)muffler had been crushed.
5)kerosene tank was missing.
6)the block had been busted and welded.
7)the hole in the drawbar had worn out so a new peice of metal had been welded over it with a hole drilled.
8)the bucket on the trip loader was no good.
9)the front rims were all bent to shutt.
10)the tractor didn't run 100%.
11)fenders were missing.
12)no paint left on it. well, when my grandfather finally asked how much he wanted he said well, he didn't know how much it was worth and he wanted an offer but well, he thought, and thought, and thought, and finally he says "I'd like to get $3,000 for it, because this tractor is in such good original shape". I came close to asking him if he had been in the liqour cabinit before he came out, but I bit my tongue and we went over all the defects of the tractor with him. The busted block he claimed he had never seen which I don't believe because he claimed he had the tractor for 32 years and it was a big cruedly welded spot right on the side and not hidden in the least. I think he really started to see that his tractor wasn't worth $3,000.
