Please take it easy on me as I am very new to these red tractors. First question, should I be able to take off in 5th gear? When I attempt to do this the tractor stalls, an attempt to shift from 4th to 5th produces nothing but grind (all I have ever driven before where Fords). Next question, when I idle down the engine, and it will idle down way low, I hear a slight knock. It sounds like it comes from "way down low where the big bucks go," normal or something to worry about? The engine runs a little rough at higher revs but I think that is from sitting for so long, also seems to lack power (have not had a chance to change plugs and such yet but that is upcoming). Last question, the previous owner switched to a 12 volt system. He said that if I run the lighs the battery goes dead. I check and the alternator is putting out only 12.6 volts. Took it off and had it check out OK at the local parts place. Only thing I can think of this that it is not spinning fast enough to produce teh required 14 volts. Any suggestions on how to resolve this? Thanks for your help.
