Just wondering also what effect unsold inventory would have had in all of this. I was born and brought up on a farm in NS, Canada. During 50s and 60s many of the new tractors sold there were 1 to 2 years off production line. ie. I have a Super A sold new in 55, it was built in 53. I also have a 130 sold new in 59, it was built in 57. My dad purchased a new W4 in 1942 as did a number of his neighbours. I was born in 42 so I only suspect these were the first letter series tractors to arrive in area. These tractors came on rear steel and a set of rims. Most waited until after war to get tires. The other item that probably affected whole tractor production scheme is here in Canada, Massey Harris and Cockshutt tractor plants were completely on war effort. I will stand corrected, but I believe they produced no tractors in 5 years. Cockshutt of course, had never built a tractor at that point. They had sold orange Olivers in Canada. They did have their new 30 on drawing boards complete with IPTO. Because of war that tractor never went into production until 1946. IH and JD made huge in roads into Canada during this period. Other than in central Canada there are not a lot of pre war IH or JD antique tractors around. The Canadian companies never did regain their momentum after the war.
