1940 B drawbar

Just got my "40 B back from shop. Had "new" drawbar installed. My B came with a homebuilt 3-point. PROBLEM: the drawbar interferes with 3-point action. If the drawbar extended about 4-5 inches less than it does now, problem would be solved. QUESTION: Would it be OK to cut each side of the drawbar just behind the mounting plates, move the bar forward just that much, and weld?
