I Recently installed a new pump on a 1953 super c tractor for my dad. when the tractor was used for the first time after istallation it blew the pump shaft seal and transferred all the hydraulic fluid to the crankcase.I pulled the pump and the seal was out of its seat in the pump housing and up against the drive gear on the pump. Since i was in the field many miles from a parts dept,i checked the seal ( it looked okay)and i drove it back into place and put everythingand after about twenty minutes of use it pumped the resvoir dry again. The seal was installed in the pump when it was purchased and i assumed it was okay. What am i missing here? is there supposed to be asnap ringto hold the seal in place or maybe a spacer between the pump gear and the seal? I do not have a service manual for this tractor. If anyone can help with this problem it would appreiated. Also could the system somehow be building too much pressure and causing this? thanks very much.
