I don't have any specific knowledge about 544's, but I know that IH did paint tractors many different colors for special orders. Industrial and utility models that were bought by states and counties for road maintenance were often yellow, along with many other colors as were tractors bought by industries & construction companies, depending on the preference of the buyer. If any parts were ever replaced by salvaged parts, you may be seeing the color of the donor tractor too. There are lots of posibilities.
