Every new Super M and MTA I ever saw, and I saw a lot of them, had 12 inch wide rear rims, and came with 13-38 tires, and looked real nice. Most of the 400's did too, but then IH started using 15.5's on the latest 400's and all the 450's and used a 14 inch rim for them and the tires looked too small, diameter-wise. But that was the beginning of the "wide, low tire era" on tractors, trucks, and cars. Look at tire design now, we've come full circle. Rim width is usually measured right at the bead sealing surface, vertical surface-face to face.
