I have a 1956 400D, 600D and a TD9. I have gone through this several times. I've done this both ways. Pulled the plug at the end of the line at the injector and let diesel fuel go all over. I have also just let the tractor warm up on the gas cycle for a minite or so and switched to the diesel cycle without any problem.
