Need help with tractor age--block info.

We have an M without a serial tag but we originally felt it may be an early model because it
**Has the shifting pattern cast into the large transmission cover just aft of the shifter
**Has the large, pencil thick dipstick
**Has the short, fat oil filter housing.

After doing a little more research, it appears the block is out of a W-6. Does the W-6 have the large dipstick and short, fat filter? Could the shifting pattern cast into the transmission platform indicated an older model?
