I have an 8n Ford (1947) and 300 IH Utility (1955) and a 340 IH utility (1958). The Ford has the true 3 point hitch which makes it very versatile for the small farm, but many people think that it is the only small tractor, thus the price seems to be way high for what you get. The IH models that I cited are far more tractor, but in the same size area as the Ford, so they are quite handy to use. All the 300 U, 350 U, 340 U can be fitted with adaptor hitchs that allow the use of almost any 3 point equipment. Personally, I would stay away from the IH Cub for what you have described. I have seen some Cubs broken in half at the transmission housing by inexperienced operators expecting them to do too heavy a job. Most Cubs are not set up to accept 3 point hitch equipment, which really hampers the wide range of tasks that you want it to do. Bottom line: The 8N Ford will work for you (stay away from the 9N and 2N models), but any of the 300 series IH Utilities will work much better. Try to find someone in your area who is experienced with the small tractors and is willing to go with you and look at what you are considering buying. Buy him lunch, it will be the best money you spend that day. I have seen inexperienced newcomers absolutely robbed by unscrupulus sellers. Best of Luck! Paul Hetchler in MN
