Take the starter-generator to a generator shop and have them rebuild it. I just did that to mine and it cost $35. They put in one brush and cleaned the commutator and replaced a bearing. Tractor runs great. I have used my 154 for the past 25 years cutting grass with a IH 3260 72" mower and have had no problems whatever. Change the oil often and don't forget to check / add hy-tran fluid to the transmission and final drives. I use prestone and distilled water in the cooling system and watch the level. Keep the antifreeze 2" below the level of the cap because it is a thermosyphon system. Other than that good preventive maintenance is the key. good luck !
