The conversion should be fairly easy. I converted a SMTA. In the Archives Bob M has wiring diagrams to use an alternator and complete instructions. I would get a used alteernator as they usually last for a long time, get a delco with an inside regulator. You'll have to fabricate the mounting bracket, on my SMTA I used the generator bracket turned upside down. Don't know about clearance under the hood, the smaller alternators are not much bigger than a generator. Use a 12 volt coil with resister or put a chrysler type resister in the line to the coil(cheaper than new coil) If the 350 is positive ground like the older IH, you'll have to reverse the wires to the coil. If you can find the diagram by Bob M it is easy depending upon your mechanical skills. You can still jump start the 6 volt with your pickup but 12 volts gives you a lot more start.
