I've got 2 digital cameras. My first one - a 1 meg - I've been using for several years. For sharing images on the web and for printing up to 5x7 it's all you'll need. (Actually 8x10's prints come out surprisingly well when done on a good quality printer). Decent 1 meg cameras can now be had for $200 or so. Recently I purchased a 2.1 meg camera - not because felt I needed more resolution, but for it's optical zoom capability. (My wife is into wildlife photography - we found a 10x optical zoom is perfect for getting birds in treetops, etc). The 2 meg camera shows noticable improvement over the 1 meg in image quality - but only when printed at 8x10 and larger. But the quality improvement is at the expense of larger file sizes (slower downloads, and stored images fill up the hard drive more quickly).
