Steve: Your gonna have this one nailed down sooner or later.. Casting numbers look like This: 11*05*R 11 is November and 05 is the fifth day. R is 1948. S='49, T='50 etc Ahh there was a letter skipped now that I got typed this far..I can't remember the skipped letter. Anyway do not confuse a series with R1 or R2 as that is a part number. Engine serial# is above front sparkplug on flat milled surface. Check major castings such as rear end and clutch housing etc to get ballpark dates. Mine has numbers spanning about 5 months for all castings. ..You worked on a farm around NW Iowa? Spirit Lake and lake Okaboge are nice fun spots in that area. Gene
