Cubs are notorious for leaking carbs because the needle valves are finicky and the carb bodies can sometimes warp and drag on the float. The leaking usually happens when it is not running. Does it cause a loss of power? Maybe a little, but if you have a major power loss it isn't the leaking. Check all wires and connections, especially to the ammeter. The 154 uses either a Delco-Remy "DELCOTRON" model 1100588 or 1102920. They are available at most auto parts stores for $25-$35 or so I found them at Autozone. I have the same problem but I am just going to replace mine. Only the regulator of the generator can be tested without dissassembly. Check the regulator by repositioning the ignition resistor on the back of the alternator to expose a D shaped test hole. Operate the engine at moderate speed, turn on all lights and check ammeter. If ammeter reading is within ten ampers of rated output (22-25), alternator is not defective. If output is less, insert a screwdriver into the D shaped opening. If the output is within 10 ampers then the internal regulator needs to be replaced. Otherwise I would just swap it out. Best of luck. BB
