If you have access to a Volt-Ohm-Meter, with the ignition switch turned on, check to see if you have 6V on both of the coil primary terminals (ones with the nuts). If that's OK, pull off the distributor cap and rotor, crank the engine and see if there is a spark between the points as the engine turns over. Also see if you can wiggle the distributor shaft to determine if the distributor bearings are good. If the distributor appears OK, replace the points and condensor. Also check the high voltage wire from the distributor to the coil.
