YOu must have some type of shock protection to protect the drive line, including the tractor PTO. That protection is NOT an over running clutch. The over running clutch is to let the mower free wheel to keep the inertia of the mower from pushing the tractor. It will do nothing to help if you hit a rock or stump. So your choices are to repair or replace the slip clutch, or to take it off and go to a shear bolt. Don't know what kind of set up your mower has, but the usual shear bolt is a 1/2 inch bolt through the shaft where it connects to the mower on the mower end. If the bolt shears, it allows the shaft collar to turn on the gearbox shaft. To weld things up solid is assuring that you are going to have damage to the PTO shaft or to your tractor PTO and transmission.
