Sounds like some good advice there Steve. Probably just what the doctor ordered. Though, I might add, that while I am somewhat unclear as to precisily what your seal looks like. If you are replacing one of those old wound felt or leather seals with a modern seal it is critical to face the replacement correctly. It isn't going to work properly if it is not faced the right way. If it is anything like the modern seals I am envisioning, you must be sure to face the rubber seal with the concave side facing the oil to be contained. It is a mistake I made one time and bought myself some needless frustration. By the way, do you think one of those specially vented "free" gas caps would be of any help? Sort of seems like a guy would have nothing to lose by trying. Don't you aggree? After all, they're free.
