The 1206 is NOT a turbo'd 806. I quote from Ken Updike's book "International Harvester Tractors 1955-1985": "During testing and development of the 1206, threee major challenges developed. First, an engine capable of delivering 100+ horsepower had to be built. Working together with engineers from the SOLAR division of IH, designers retooled the D-361 engine (used in the 806) for heavy-duty turbocharged duty. Second, the power train needed to be beefed up to handle the extra horsepower from the turbo. The engineers at Hinsdale designed an all-new heavy duty power train using specially hardened gears, heavier pinions and final drive gears (1/2 inch wider than those of the 806), a wider PTO drive gear, and bearings that could reliably deliver 98 horsepower to the drawbar... The tires used on the tractors of the day did not even begin to hold up. The 1206 had major tire sidewall buckling -- and even failure -- with conventional tractor tires. Some tires spun off the rim during testing... IH workde withmajor tire manufacturers for over two years to develop a completely new kind of tire that could put the 1206's power to the ground. This was the 18.4-38 heavy duty tire, designed to have the casing, lug strength, and wear that could stand up to the 1206... The DT361 was not just a turbocharged 806 engine. Instead, IH engineers built the 1206 specifically for turbo power right from the start. Using twinjet oil-cooled pistons, a bigger 10-inch dry-type air cleaner (with dual elements), an increased capacity radiator, a bigger fan, and a larger engine oil cooler, the 1206 was built from the start to handle a turbo... The "Elotherm"-hardened crankshaft used seven main bearings for added strength and featured up to 100 percent stronger construction for longer wear and more strength..." Hope this explains it better for you. And a pic of a 1206 Wheatland to get you drooling...

The Rescue of a Fordson F - by Anthony West. Introduction I live in the UK and have for many years restored Fordson tractors (in the main model N's). I have also restored and shown model F's, E 27N's, Field Marshall Series 2, David Brown Cropmasters and the old rey Fergeson T 20. At one time I had seven restored examples which were shown and used in ploughing matches. As most restorers, I have a number of war stories I can relate on a range of topics that may help other like minded and interested people. Perhaps my first p
