I can't give you a yes or no answer, but I can share with you what I have found out through my research. It can be done, the stock c221 bore is 3 9/16, the c301 is a 3 13/16 bore. The block I am working with is a sleeveless (combine) block. I was all set to have it poked out to the c301 bore, when I took it to the machine shop, the shop man said he wouldn't guarantee that he wouldn't get into the water jackets taking it out that far. Also he said that you can sometimes run into pores in the casting and that the cylinder wall castings have coarser, and therefore weaker material the further you bore them out. Next problem you can run into is overheating because of the thinner cylinder walls. It would have cost me about $75-80 per cylinder because of the amount of material removed. Sorry for the long post, but the long and short of it is you have to weigh the cost and risks associated with taking it out that far against the benefits of the added cubes and what you are using the tractor for. Finally, you won't end up with a c301 because of the difference in crank stroke between the two engines.
