Mechanical TA's all over-ran in TA. Every one. This covers all tractors prior to 706-806 tractors that all had hydraulic TA's (if they had one, some had no TA at all). After 1963, small frame tractors such as the 504, 544, 656, 606 still used the mechanical TA. I believe this category would also include the 666 and 686 models, but I may be wrong. Hydraulic TA's have a multiple disc wet clutch to drive in direct, as opposed to the 7" dry single disc clutch in mech. units. Hyd units also have a similar wet clutch with less discs on the TA side that prevent the tractor from freewheeling like a mechanical unit does.
