Matthew,We didnt get stuck like that all the time. The worst mud years I can remember were 1962,1967,1974,1977,1979,1981,1983,and 1985.1981 was about the worst ever as we mudded all the wheat out that summer and then mudded out everything that fall.It was just a way of life down here as we had alot of high rainfall years.Deep plowing caused alot of the problems. We quit plowing in the late 70's and by the mid 80's the problems were all gone. To get 400 horses out of an 856 IH you ran a Roosamaster pump with a 450 pump head,.093 lines, big injectors, and a big turbo, and turned about 3300 rpms. The 856 had a 4100 flywheel and clutch.
