you asked about over spray with a hvlp compared to the old guns, almost all hlvp put on 75 %or more of the paint on the part where as a old style puts on about 20 % on the part, watch buying a hvlp, mine takes 90 PSI to run and About 12 cfm, some only take 45 pounds to run with 5 7 cfm, these will work with smaller compressors, when I say 90 PSI I use a inexpensive regulater about 7 to 10 dollars at the gun handle that has a gauge, the longer the hose and smaller hose cuts your PSI at the gun, on the wall regulator I set about 110 pounds to get 90 at the gun because of the loss.all HvlP only let out 10 pounds at the cap. The over spray is very minimal with the Hvlp. Needles come 1.3 to 2.0, the higher the number (2.0) the more paint it puts out, a 1.4 will get you by with enamel, I prefer about 1.6 or 7 myself, the percents 20% percent vervus 70% will save you a lot of money in paint and primer, the HVLP uses 2/3 less paint to do the same job, I painted in a garage with the door open and 2 fans running with the old guns, after a few minutes I had to walk outside to wait for the paint in the air cleared to see, with the Hvlp I didn;t need a fan running, the old gun will have paint dust all over the garage and the Hvlp will leave a small amount around the piece on the floor, never go back to the old style. if you paint Buy one of the disposalable masks, they last about 3 cars worth, keep it sealed when not in use with a ZIP lock bag because if exposed to the air the charcoal or what ever it is looses it strenth to protect you, they cost about 17.00 to 20.00 at the paint stores, be sure to adjust it tight to seal on your face
