I'm not 100% sure on this, but isn't the D-206 the 4-cylinder version of the D-310 6-cylinder German Diesel? We have a 686 with a D-310, and it smokes just like you say yours does. I don't think anyone truly knows why these engines smoke at idle, this topic came up a long time ago on this board, one explanation was that IH possibly designed the pistons to suck more air into the cylinders, but at the same time compression was lowered enough to cause a little smoke at idle. Or mabey its like my dad always says- "those German Diesels just don't like to idle". Whatever the reason for the smoke, I wouldn't worry about it. We've got 6400 hours on the 686 and 7000 hrs. on a 786 with the 358 German diesel, although the D-358 dosen't seem to smoke quite as much.
