JD, can't really tell you how much to spend. I am searching out the parts to rebuild the TA in my 450. There are TA Repair videos for sale at this site, about $25. You can find the TA clutch & pressure plate on eBay for $115. You can get a rebuilt Sprague type TA unit from Steel Wheel Ranch(steelwheelranch.com) for $400(exchange). You will need gaskets and maybe a throw-out bearing. So depending on what may be wrong, you'll spend up to $600, plus having to split the tractor. I can remember when my Dad bought a 400 with the TA stuck in low side. He used it that way for a season and then had the TA unit rebuilt at an IH dealer. Cost more than he paid for the tractor, but that was in the late 60's. If the planetary gears and needle bearings are good, you can get by with replacing the ramp & rollers. There is a guy(Rich Bednarski 724-345-3546) that advetizes in Red Power that rebuids TA's. He's a dairy farmer south of Pittsburg and a nice guy to talk to. Give him a call.
