Well, I woke up an MD that was similar two years ago. Get all the gas start stuff in good shape. I'd suggest new plugs (about $7 each!), new plug wires, etc. One of the plugs is real hard to get too, can recall which, but I had to buy a 3/8 drive deep well 7/8 socket to get to it. The 1/2 drive socket was too big to get the handle on it to turn it. Make sure the carburator is clean. Taking it off is a real chore. It's held on the manifold by 4 bolts and one of back ones is nearly impossible to get a wrench on. If you take it off, I'd suggest replacing those back bolts with socket head screws. Careful with the carb, parts are really hard to come by. Also, take off the air cleaner and check it and the tube that goes to the manifold to make sure it is open. Mine was stopped up completely with mud daubbers nests. Make sure your timing is set correctly. It's easy to get the magneto 180 degrees off time if you take the front off to replace the points. You also might want to pull the valve cover and check the clearances. You have to remove the tube between the air cleaner and the manifold to do that. Also, the gasket for the valve cover is not available from IH, I had to make my own. And, get yourself a service manual and an owners manual. If the manual for the WD-6 can't be had, then get the MD manuals, you can use them for all the diesel stuff. Once you've been through everything, get yourself a good strong 12 volt battery (these things were 12 volt from the factory) put it it in gas mode and hit the starter and hope for the best. You'll probably be surprised how easy it'll get going. Good Luck, keep us posted on progress.

Today's Featured Article - Choosin, Mounting and Using a Bush Hog Type Mower - by Francis Robinson. Looking around at my new neighbors, most of whom are city raised and have recently acquired their first mini-farms of five to fifteen acres and also from reading questions ask at various discussion sites on the web it is frighteningly apparent that a great many guys (and a few gals) are learning by trial and error and mostly error how to use a very dangerous piece of farm equipment. It is also very apparent that these folks are getting a lot of very poor and often very dangerous advice fro ... [Read Article]
