It has been cold here this weekend, only about 10 yesterday and a little below zero at night. A friend from work called me on my Nextel, said his 300 utility would not move, it started ok but soon as the clutch was let out the engine would pull down and die. I went up there to see if I could help, checked to make sure the tractor was not in 2 gears at once like some of that vintage tractor I have had experience with and it wasn't. He tried to pull it with his 4 wheel drive truck but the wheels slid, only moved it maybe 2 feet and gave up before I got there. I came to the conclusion that he has water in the rear end and it is frozen. Told him to either wait until it warms up or put a heater on it to thaw it out, after which he needed to change the rear end and transmission Hy Tran, then told him he had just been initiated into the world of farm machinery, this is his first tractor.
